About the Hub

The Direct Instruction Training Hub was established by Clive Wright, Head Teacher at Saint Martin's Catholic Academy in Stoke Golding in 2017 in order to support others to deliver DI programmes in their own schools. When he first wanted to implement DI in 2015 there were very few schools who delivered the programme in its pure form, so he tasked Chloe Sanders, Assistant Head, to research and develop D.I. Chloe ended up working alongside the National Institute for Direct Instruction (NIFDI) the world's foremost Direct Instruction support provider. Kurt Engelmann, son of Siegfried Engelmann, hosted a group of our DI Training Hub coaches in July 2019, and our team took part in workshops and seminars at the National Conference in Eugene, Oregon.

From the schools and teachers we've worked with....

At Nicholas Chamberlaine our DI classes have been everything I have hoped for and more! Students have had supportive, specialist maths instruction and we have had expert, patient training to be able to implement it! The level of high quality support for our staff in setting this up has been remarkable.    5/5       Jude Hunton
During the summer of 2019 Chloe delivered expert DI training to my staff. She ran training sessions for members of my English and Maths department in the fundamentals of DI and how the DI programme works. This training was also delivered to two of my Vice Principals. Chloe provided expert support for my team and helped to organise and run placement tests with the now new Year 7. This work has been instrumental and through running a clear and targeted DI programme for Year 7 pupils who are not secondary ready we are now seeing pupils who would ordinarily be behind making huge gains and accessing the curriculum in a way that they would otherwise fail to do so. 5*       Sam Strickland
Chloe tailored it to the specific needs of our schools. She was very knowledgeable, friendly and flexible in what we felt would be beneficial to us. She was also extremely patient with our many questions!  Chloe took the time to know staff and the school and made us all feel at ease. Would highly recommend!  Katherine Bunney
Chloe supported and advised us in developing our use of Direct Instruction at Bedford Free School. She provided a fantastic day of training for the English and SEND team, helping us improve our strategy around identifying appropriate interventions for students and tracking their progress, as well as advising teachers on developing expertise in using DI. Since the training she has been available to answer questions and has been a great support in us moving forward and expanding our use of DI with confidence.  Sallie Stanton
